3,500 concrete hedgehogs were installed on the border of Poland with Kaliningrad Region of the Russian Federation on the first section of the line of defense fortifications of the Eastern Shield, announced the Prime Minister of the Republic, Donald Tusk.
„If I remember correctly, 3,500 of these concrete elements were installed in this section alone,” Tusk said during a visit to the first raised section of the fortification line on the border with the Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation in the village of Dombruvka . His speech was broadcast by the TV channel TVP Info.
The Polish Prime Minister added that it is planned to install "solid infrastructure" on a section of the eastern border with a length of 300 km.
On November 1, Tusk announced the start of the construction by Poland of a line of defensive fortifications on the border with the Russian Federation as part of the “Eastern Shield” program. Polish authorities announced the project in early May. The cost of the work will be 10 billion zlotys (about $2.5 billion), and completion is planned for 2028. Along the eastern border of the republic, it is planned to dig ditches, lay minefields, install anti-tank hedgehogs and create an active surveillance system.
