Los Angeles wildfires continue, threat remains - 1

Firefighters in Los Angeles continue to battle the raging fires that are ravaging the region. Despite the expiration of the red warning code for the county, the danger of new fires or the expansion of existing ones remains, Reuters reports, quoted by News.bg.

The US National Weather Service warned that favorable conditions for the spread of fires - strong winds and low humidity - continue to pose a threat.

The fire has already covered an area comparable to that of Washington, D.C., threatening the lives of about 6.5 million people. At least 25 people have died so far. Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and be prepared to evacuate if necessary.

The fires have destroyed more than 12,000 residential and office buildings, with about 200,000 people forced to leave their homes. Entire neighborhoods have been completely devastated.

About 8,500 firefighters from the western United States, as well as Canada and Mexico, have been battling the growing fires for days. Among them, the Palisades Fire in west Los Angeles has burned 23,713 acres (96 sq km), while the Eaton Fire in the eastern foothills has reached 14,117 acres (57 sq km).

A new fire that broke out on Wednesday in San Bernardino County, east of Los Angeles, has already burned 30 acres (12 hectares). Two other fires in Southern California have been largely contained.

As the threat grows, critics question whether Los Angeles is prepared for this scale of fire danger.
