Russian and North Korean forces have suffered heavy losses in fighting in Russia's Kursk region. This was stated on Saturday by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, quoted by "Reuters". He cited data from the report of the army's high command.
"In the fighting yesterday and today in just one village, Makhnovka, in the Kursk region, the Russian army lost up to a battalion of North Korean infantrymen and Russian paratroopers," Zelensky said in his nighttime video address.
"This is important.", Zelensky said, but did not give specific details.
It is specified that a battalion can vary, but usually consists of several hundred soldiers.
We recall that a day earlier it was reported that Ukraine had struck a Russian command post in Maryno, Kursk region.
According to the Russian military, air defense units shot down four Ukrainian missiles in the region, and the regional governor said that the strikes damaged a multi-story residential building and other buildings in a neighboring village.
A statement from the Ukrainian military on Telegram said that "these strikes disrupt the Russian Federation's ability to carry out terrorism against innocent Ukrainian civilians." Another post shared a video in which the military said it could see damage from the strike on a Russian base in Ivanovskoye, near Marino. "Reuters" noted that it could not independently verify the battlefield information from either side.
Kursk regional governor Alexander Khinshtein said the strike on Ivanovskoye broke windows in a multi-story apartment building and in private homes. A school, a pharmacy and a shop were also damaged.
