Attempts to arrest former South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol are damaging South Korea's international status, his lawyer Yoon Kab-kyun said today, quoted by Reuters and BTA.
After allegations emerged that the whereabouts of the former head of state, who was impeached by parliament, were unknown, the lawyer assured the media that the ex-president remains at his official residence. In addition, a request to cancel the arrest warrant was re-submitted to the court.
The first attempt to detain Yoon Suk-yeol was made on January 3. Officers from the High-Level Corruption Investigation Service were unable to get past the presidential guard, leading to clashes.
“Any physical conflict during the execution of the arrest warrant is unthinkable,“ Yoon Kab-kyun stressed in a statement.
