Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Monday that more needs to be done to clean up the oil spill in the Black Sea after the incident with the two Russian tankers, noting that the efforts so far did not seem to be enough to deal with the environmental disaster, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
The oil leaked from two outdated Russian tankers after they ran into a storm in the Kerch Strait on December 15 last year. One sank and the other ran aground.
Putin told a government meeting that cleanup efforts had been poorly coordinated between regional and state authorities.
The Russian leader called for the creation of a commission to help mitigate the consequences of the disaster and prevent future leaks of oil products from sunken tankers.
