The newly elected US President Donald Trump said today that Russian leader Vladimir Putin has expressed a desire to meet with him and that the two countries are preparing for such a meeting, RIA Novosti reported.
“He (Putin. – Ed.) wants to meet and we are organizing it“, Trump told reporters at his residence in Florida.
When asked about the possibility of a trilateral meeting between him, Putin and Chinese leader Xi Jinping, Trump replied that this would be decided later.
In December, the Russian president said that he was ready to talk and meet with Trump, noting that if this took place, the two presidents would have something to talk about.
Trump himself had previously stated that he was aware of Putin's readiness for negotiations, but considers such contacts possible only after his official return to the White House.
The press secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov said yesterday that there are currently no concrete plans for contacts between Putin and Trump and there have been no "impulses" on this issue from the American politician.
