In his book “My War“ Valery Zaluzhny reveals that the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) was put under serious pressure in preparing for the counteroffensive in 2023, Focus reports.
Zaluzhny points out that the AFU were subjected to requirements for rapid success, despite limited resources and insufficient equipment supplies.
Problems with equipment and engineering means
The Ukrainian army, according to Zaluzhny, was only 50-60% equipped, and only 10-15% of the soldiers had the necessary engineering means. However, the office of President Volodymyr Zelensky, supported by Western partners, insisted on a faster offensive, which led to serious consequences for the army, described in his book.
The consequences of the push: Losses and casualties
Zaluzny regrets that, despite warnings about the possible consequences of haste, commanders and partners did not heed them. The insistent pressure for quick victories led to important strategic failures, including the loss of military equipment and casualties among soldiers. In his book, he emphasizes that the desire to concentrate efforts on a single direction had disastrous effects on the army.
