At a meeting of the International Energy Agency, the Ukrainian delegation agreed to receive decommissioned equipment from six European combined heat and power plants (CHP). Ukrainian Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal announced this on his Telegram channel.
According to him, these agreements refer to “agreements with Latvia, Austria, Finland, Croatia, France and Germany“. “Everything will be moved and quickly installed. This concerns at least six decommissioned cogeneration plants and thermal power plants, the equipment of which will be transferred to Ukraine“, he wrote. The minister added that this would allow for “quick restoration of key power plants“.
Shmikhal also announced that Kyiv will receive “more than 600 million EUR for energy and agreements with partners to receive decommissioned equipment“.
Ukraine has been experiencing power supply problems since the end of 2025 amid severe frosts and extensive damage to energy infrastructure. A state of emergency is currently in effect in the country's energy sector. All regions are implementing daily, multi-hour power outages, with outages lasting from 8 to 16 hours a day.
