After the devastating hailstorms that ruined the harvest of many farmers in our country - Albanian and Greek vegetables are flooding our markets. The Bulgarian Association of Greenhouse Producers reported the problem. They claim that foreign goods are being mixed with Bulgarian goods and are offered at stalls as domestic production. And they said that they are ready to protest if control is not tightened, Nova TV specifies.
According to the chairman of the Bulgarian Association of Greenhouse Producers, Marin Genurov, the trend of importing cheap produce is observed in greenhouse tomatoes and cucumbers. He emphasized that the industry has information about the re-export of vegetables from Albania through Greece. They arrive in our country at lower prices. “Tomatoes arrive in our country at a price of up to 1.50 leva, and cucumbers – at a price of 0.80 to 1.20 leva. For comparison, the same production produced in our country is at least 1 leva higher”, he explained.
Ivan Kaburov, who is the deputy chairman of the Bulgarian Association of Greenhouse Producers, said that imported production is often of lower quality and has a worse appearance. Its only advantage is that it is cheaper than Bulgarian. He emphasized that the cost price at which Bulgarian producers sell is about 2.40 leva. “We sell at a price of about 1.40 leva and we are already at a loss. I call on the Bulgarian Food and Agriculture Organization to step into its role and control imports, markets and fairs”.
