„Save Sofia“ announced that it wants to convene an extraordinary meeting of the municipal council next Thursday, in order to hear the executive director and management of „Toplofikatsiya Sofia“ EAD about the repairs in Druzhba 2, which the company announced surprisingly and because of which over 40,000 people will be left without heating and hot water for at least 3 months.

„Leaving the people in Druzhba - these are households, schools, kindergartens, hospitals and public buildings - without heating in the winter is unacceptable. In the conditions of an already existing crisis in „Toplofikatsiya“ "Such a decision requires full transparency, accountability and urgent measures to protect people," stated "Save Sofia."

The party insists that the company submit a detailed schedule for the repairs and interruptions of the heat supply, with clearly indicated buildings, periods and hours, as well as all contracts with the contractors. "We expect to see specific prices, terms, guarantees and penalties that have been agreed upon by this management. After they insist that they have no other choice, we want to receive assurances that they will be as transparent as possible to the people and to the municipal council, which is the principal of the company," said Stefan Spasov, municipal councilor and member of the engineering infrastructure committee.

Due to public doubts about the cost of the repairs in Druzhba and the financial condition of the company "Save Sofia," insist on an updated financial framework for the project, to explain the sources of financing and to present a risk analysis for the budget of the Sofia Municipality.

Boris Bonev, leader of Spasi Sofia, explained why, in his opinion, Delyan Peevski suddenly became concerned about “Toplofikatsiya“. “On August 25, the Ministry of Finance surprisingly increased the capital of the Bulgarian Development Bank, known as Delyan Peevski's personal bank, by 4 billion leva. A month later, a fund was created to purchase energy receivables from the same bank. On the same day, for the first time, Peevski sharply became concerned about the future of “Toplofikatsiya“ and even threatened that the schemes in the company would be given to the prosecutor's office. It was then that the Minister of Energy ordered “Toplofikatsiya“ within 7 days to pay 1.3 billion leva of debts to “Bulgargaz“ – something impossible given that the company does not have these funds”. He also pointed out that “this will implement a scheme to drain public funds – first the accounts of “Toplofikatsiya“ will be frozen, after which it will be necessary to take an emergency loan from the Bulgarian Development Bank. And for this, a decision of the Municipal Council will be needed – where the economic majority is controlled by GERB.“

“Save Sofia“ emphasizes that the role of the Sofia Municipal Council as the principal of the company is to protect the interests of citizens and ensure that decisions affect their quality of life in a fair and transparent manner.
