„I would not say that there is a surprise in the elections in Pazardzhik. Yesterday we saw that Bulgarians cannot hold fair elections. On the one hand, the state, which through its institutions cannot enforce compliance with the rules, and we as a society refuse to exercise our political rights. The several civil arrests from yesterday will not fill this gap.“
This was stated on bTV by Krum Zarkov, a former Minister of Justice, quoted by novini.bg.
„We live in an environment of accelerated degradation of democracy. Democracy needs protection. The last barrier for protection remains the citizens - by throwing out their trash, by voting, by protesting. This is the path of civil reaction to the obvious decomposition of the democratic process that we are witnessing. The first political force - DPS - New Beginning, which is beating the fanfare today, has 17% of the 35% who voted, or a total of 5,000 votes. Yes, GERB is a surprise, as I don't remember it being in sixth place. But all the values are so ridiculous that I don't see any point in commenting on these results. We saw national elections that the Constitutional Court subsequently redrawn. Our democracy is seriously wounded at its very foundation - the elections, and that is why it does not function in its institutions," he is categorical.
Regarding the mandate of the I.F. Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov, Zarkov was categorical that the law is clear.
„This is a law that some people do not want to read, and it is about the bodies that must implement it. The law is clear – from January 21, no one can be an acting prosecutor general for more than 6 months. On July 21, six months have passed. There is a constitutional logic behind this restriction – when a figure performs the functions temporarily – and here we are not talking about 6 months, but for two years, without a term for this thing, the order in which people are appointed to this position is bypassed“, he explained.
And he explained that the Supreme Judicial Council will meet on Thursday and will rule then. According to him, behind the request for the interpretation of the law lies a request for its change.
„Sarafov is very keen to continue being an acting prosecutor general "The prosecutor general will remain in office until a new prosecutor general is elected. Apparently, once you leave this office, it is not easy to re-enter it," he added.
„The reasons for keeping Kotsev in custody sound insufficiently convincing. Testimony from a person appears, who then renounces them and claims that he was threatened by the head of the Communist Party of Bulgaria. A deputy appears, but it is not clear who he is, so that the case can come to Sofia. Now a new secret witness appears - Russian or Ukrainian, who is both secret, but a person appears who says that it is not him. In such an atmosphere, those who claim that this is a political showdown have arguments for it“ is Zarkov's opinion.
It is categorical that the best thing about the bill of “There are such people“ is that it was withdrawn.
“I put it in the “gross mistake“ column, but this is not a mistake only on the back of ITN. If it were not for the public reaction, the coalition partners would have supported it in the hall. If you think that this was a smokescreen to cover up something else, I don't think so – this was an ill-considered legislative initiative and it would have passed if it had not aroused public reaction“, he added.
