From today, winter maintenance of the republican roads comes into effect and drivers must prepare their cars for travel in winter conditions, the press center of the “Road Infrastructure” Agency announced. (API).
The regional road departments monitor the weather forecasts and the road maintenance companies are ready to take the necessary actions to treat the pavements in case of a decrease in temperatures and worsening weather in order to ensure safe travel for drivers.
The priority is the motorways, the busiest routes on the first-class and second-class road network and the passes providing connections between Northern and Southern Bulgaria.
On the eve of the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims - November 16, 2025, API appeals to drivers to drive their cars carefully and sensibly, as well as to strictly follow the traffic rules.
The road agency advises drivers to set off on the road only with suitable tires, to drive at a reasonable speed, to keep their distance, not to make sudden maneuvers, as well as overtaking snowplows. Blocking traffic by vehicles that are not prepared for winter conditions makes it difficult for all other drivers to travel and for snowplows to work.
At the initiative of the United Nations General Assembly, every third Sunday of November - on the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims - tribute is paid to those who lost their lives and those injured in road accidents, added the RIA.
At the end of October, the “Traffic Police“ department of the General Directorate “National Police“ (GDNP) announced the start of the annual “Winter“ Campaign. Drivers are required to drive with tires suitable for winter conditions from November 15 to March 1.
