BDZ provides over 6,000 additional seats for travel during Christmas and New Year. Trains on the main routes in the country will run with more wagons, the Bulgarian National Radio reports.

Traditionally, the national railway carrier adds additional wagons on long routes, mainly Sofia - Varna and Sofia - Burgas, explained Anatoli Atanasov, Director of Operations at BDZ "Passenger Transport".

"The increases will occur in two stages, as we assume passenger trips - a large part of them will depart on December 22nd and 23rd, a smaller part of them will return possibly on the 27th and 28th. The other peak of travel will be on the 30th-31st and the return on the 3rd and 4th of January, when we assume that we will have the most significant increase in passenger flow".

Atanasov advises travelers to purchase their tickets online and as early as possible before the trip, since at the last minute it is difficult to increase the compositions:

"So that we can predict and react depending on the technical condition of the rolling stock. Things become very difficult at the last minute, because once we have problems with technically sound wagons during the holidays and the second time - a large part of the stations are under repair, for example Sofia station. And it is extremely difficult to increase the composition of a train at the last minute. "Today and today we will meet and review the sales and the available seats we have, and possibly react tomorrow where possible, by increasing the number of trains," Anatoly Atanasov from BDZ told BNR.
