GERB: We will be a constructive opposition. Rumen Radev will single-handedly govern the country

He let us fight with PP-DB, two fight, the third wins, said Boyko Borisov

First comment from the GERB-SDF coalition after the parliamentary elections held on April 19. GERB announced its intention to return to a clear center-right line, with an emphasis on pro-European policy, budgetary discipline and cooperation with other right-wing formations in and outside parliament. The political entity believes that the election results require internal analysis and rethinking of political decisions, including previous partnerships. In addition, they expressed their intention to be a constructive opposition.

GERB leader Boyko Borisov congratulated Rumen Radev and described his campaign as perfect. “He let us fight with PP-DB, we fought for second and third place. The people have very wisely said that two fight, the third wins. We will have a one-man government, all good intentions and ideas can come true. Rumen Radev has a president and constitutional judges chosen by him. He can do everything he said. We suffered a collapse in some places. In Razgrad and Targovishte we do not have elected deputies. The conclusion is that the friendship with the BSP and PP-DB took away a total of 400,000 votes. Rumen Radev very cleverly declared himself against everyone and won, the people chose him as their leader”, Borisov said.

According to him, in the previous government, some things depended on the votes of the MRF, and that is why more votes were lost. “GERB has not one, but 20 leaders, this question is not before us. Now we have to lead the party, I do not intend to resign,” added the GERB chairman.

According to the CEC data with 100% processed protocols - five parties enter the parliament in the 52nd National Assembly. First, with a tangible lead, is the formation “Progressive Bulgaria” of Rumen Radev with 44.594%. The other formations entering the 52nd National Assembly are GERB-SDF with 13.387%, PP-DB with 12.618%, DPS with 7.12% and ”Vazrazhdane” with 4.257 percent of the votes.

The mayor of Stara Zagora thanked the party's voters and the institutions for the fight against the bought vote. He expressed the party's position on vote trading - it categorically distances itself from this. Zhivko Todorov believes that GERB should maintain its right-wing, anti-corruption profile. “In no case should we enter into unprincipled coalitions that bring negativity and loss of trust. There is an awful lot of work ahead to regain it, supporting the right, moral and true things. If we have made mistakes over time, we have reconsidered our behavior based on what we saw in the last elections. We will seek cooperation with the other right-wing parties in and outside the parliament. Bulgaria must have a strong right-wing policy, pro-European and anti-corruption”, Todorov pointed out.

For his part, Tomislav Donchev believes that the situation requires introspection. “The reason for our worse result is clear - unapproved partnerships, the leftward shift of the party. We received a well-deserved punishment. "We have been assigned the role of opposition, we will fulfill it with dignity. The stronger we are, the more adequate the government will be. We are returning to the center-right course, which also includes budget consolidation," he commented.
