Hundreds of abandoned cars are being removed from neighborhoods in Sofia

The actions of the Sofia Municipality are aimed at one of the most tangible problems for people in the city – the lack of enough space

In the last three months, 937 out-of-use cars have been removed in Sofia, and 96 of them have already been forcibly moved. The clearing frees up parking spaces and space in neighborhoods, facilitates movement and improves access to utilities.

The actions of the Sofia Municipality are aimed at one of the most tangible problems for people in the city – the lack of enough space. Abandoned cars occupy parking spaces for years, hinder movement and create a feeling of a neglected environment. Removing them returns the space back to citizens – for parking, for more normal traffic and for more orderly neighborhoods.

To date, of the cars with stickers:

● 2 have been moved voluntarily;

● 16 have passed an annual technical inspection;

● 22 have had their registration suspended;

● 96 have been forcibly moved.

What happens if an abandoned car is found:

A car without a valid technical inspection for more than 3 months, left on municipal or state land, is considered out of use. A sticker is placed with a 3-month period for voluntary removal. In case of non-compliance, an order is issued and the car is forcibly removed within 14 days. It is then transported to a temporary storage site, where it is kept for another 14 days before being dismantled if not claimed by the owner.

The result is visible in everyday life – more free parking spaces, easier free passage and a cleaner and tidier urban environment.
