The 150th anniversary of the April Uprising was honored with a ceremonial lighting ceremony in Panagyurishte - one of the most heroic epics in Bulgarian history.

President Iliana Yotova took part in the celebration of the 150th anniversary in Panagyurishte.

"Every Bulgarian city keeps in its bosom the ancient history of our beloved homeland. Our, Bulgarian Panagyurishte is not only the freedom-loving heart of the Bulgarian revolution, it is the capital of rebellious Bulgaria", said President Iliana Yotova at the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising.

"Cities that became symbols of the suffering and immortal Bulgarian cause. Cities that linked their names with the most important and decisive moments in our common destiny. One of the first is Panagyurishte," Yotova also pointed out.

"Dear Panagyurishte residents, only the one who has not touched you, only he does not know with what great reverence, with how high your heads are raised you keep the memory of the April epic, the days of rapture, of freedom, of conscious self-sacrifice. This is the Bulgarian April Uprising – dream of freedom, of one's homeland, of equality, of independence. It is precisely on these streets and squares of Panagyurishte in 1876 that the voice of the Bulgarian resurrection is heard loudly but very decisively. Of the resurrected tradition of the Bulgarian state", added the head of state.

"I am convinced that together we will be able to create a new successful home for our entire community. To give the necessary care to our dreams and our children. And you, dear children, look at the heroes from the portraits, learn their names, follow their example. Leave a piece of their legacy in your heart and pass it on to your heirs. So that the memory may exist, so that Bulgaria may exist", said the mayor of Panagyurishte Zhelyazko Gagov in his speech.
