The two French planes involved in extinguishing the fire at the Greek border, load water from the Dospat Dam. This was reported to BTA by Adalbert Ferev, chairman of the Municipal Council in Dospat.
Boats and other vessels are prohibited from sailing in the dam today and tomorrow, the Municipal Administration warns.
Ch. Commissioner Alexander Zhartov, director of the General Directorate "Fire Safety and Protection of the Population", indicated that the teams extinguishing the fire along the Bulgarian-Greek border were withdrawn due to mine explosions.
Dzhartov explained that crews are trying to attack the fire from roads whenever possible, as well as using aircraft.
Airplanes periodically fly over the Dospat dam today and fill up with water to extinguish the forest fire. Charging takes place at an interval of about 30 minutes, according to observations of municipal officials.
The two French planes sent under the EU Civil Protection Mechanism have been operating in the field since yesterday. Today, the air dousing of the fire continues, and a safety perimeter has been created for people on the ground.
