The Mayor of Sofia Municipality will return the decision of the Sofia Municipal Council on Sofia's budget for 2025 for review.
“The municipal councilors voted on a city budget that is unbalanced. The revenues in the adopted budget exceed the expenses by over 3.5 million leva, which makes it illegal according to the Public Finance Act,” said Vasil Terziev and added that he will return the budget for new consideration and voting.
The adopted budget provides for revenues in the amount of 2,868,687,985 leva, of which 2,752,225,485 leva are budget. and expenses in the amount of 2,865,173,962 leva, including budget 2,748,711,462 leva.
I hope that this time the municipal councilors will listen to our arguments and those of the experts from the Sofia Municipality administration and Sofia will finally have a budget, which will allow us to start working on the planned projects, Terziev added.
The Sofia Municipal Council voted on the Sofia Municipality budget on the evening of May 29 after lengthy debates and numerous changes initiated by the municipal councilors of GERB-SDF, BSP, “Save Sofia” and Carlos Contrera from VMRO, NOVA recalls.
“This is a precedent in the history of Sofia. For the first time, a municipal council adopts a budget contrary to the law and the mayor of Sofia will return it for revision. In addition, a number of clear procedural violations were committed during the discussion and adoption of the city budget,” added Deputy Mayor for Finance Ivan Vassilev.
