The MEPs from „Vazrazhdane“ supported a vote of no confidence against the European Commission due to the lack of transparency in its work.
A cross-party coalition of members of the European Parliament has officially submitted a vote of no confidence against the European Commission, led by Ursula Von der Leyen. The initiative, signed by the three representatives of „Vazrazhdane“ in the European Parliament and actively supported by the Europe of Sovereign Nations Group (ESN), is aimed at the overall institutional failure of the Commission.
The vote is motivated by the ruling of the Court of Justice of the EU, which confirmed that the Commission unlawfully refused access to SMS correspondence between President Von der Leyen and the CEO of “Pfizer” Albert Bourla in connection with the COVID-19 vaccine deals. The case has heightened concerns about the lack of transparency and possible misuse of public funds by the Commission.
The vote of no confidence will be considered by the Bureau of the Parliament to be included on the agenda of the Conference of Presidents on 2 July.
„Europe cannot be run as a cartel of unelected bureaucrats. When basic accountability standards are violated and billions of taxpayers' money is distributed in secret agreements, we are obliged to react. This Commission has betrayed the principles of transparency and does not have the trust of citizens. By signing this vote, we are defending the rights of Bulgarian and European citizens who expect integrity, not secrecy," said Stanislav Stoyanov, MEP elected from the "Vazrazhdane" quota, Vice-Chairman of the "Europe of Sovereign Nations" Group and Chairman of the European Party of the same name.
The ESN Group has consistently insisted on the restoration of democratic control and national sovereignty within the European Union and is committed to continuing to expose attempts to impose unaccountable power on the European Commission.
