Kuzman Iliev: Our business operates in a toxic environment

Pandora's box has been opened and regulators have been given carte blanche to pressure everyone

Our business operates in a toxic environment. This was stated to the Bulgarian National Radio by Kuzman Iliev, an economic analyst and leader of the "Bulgaria Can" party.

"Pandora's box has been opened and the regulators have been given carte blanche to pressure anyone who, in their opinion, cannot justify in a free market economy why they are raising one price or another, which is total absurdity.

The administration treats small and medium-sized businesses like a stepmother who comes to spank them, not to help them".

We will start operating in a regime of sanctions and pressure, and this is dictated by the gaping hole in the budget, Iliev said in the program "Predi visci".

He commented on the "Shop for the People" initiative.

"There are economic laws. Everyone wants to raise prices, but what stops them is competition. Suddenly, some kind of state-owned store appears. The goods are subsidized. They will be cheaper because the taxpayer has taken money out of his pocket. The middle class, small and medium-sized businesses will pay for such eccentric adventures - absolutely populist and only electorally justified.

This will also mark the beginning of a course towards a return to the planned economy, of course - with a Euro-Atlantic majority. Let them not just stick labels on themselves. This is total control over the economic process!"

Prices are already really high and this is becoming a political problem, the economic analyst noted. He does not rule out holding mass protests next year - during the harsh winter period.
