A creature with red eyes and long fingers was found in the mountain forests of India, which turned out to be a representative of a new species of gecko, writes the Daily Mail.

Three scaly animals were found in a cave that rises on the Valparai plateau 1,400 meters above sea level. All three specimens seen on the stone differed in color. One male was covered in bright yellow spots, while the other had a dull brown spot on his tail. The female was the darkest of all, with an almost indistinct yellow tint to the scales.

Biologists analyzed DNA from one of the reptiles and found that it belonged to a species previously unknown to science. Its representatives will now be called “ Valparai dwarf geckos“. They are distinguished by an atypical size for their lizard family: they can reach almost 11.5 centimeters in length.

In the same forests, scientists managed to find four more new species of geckos. All these reptiles have a very narrow habitat, which is a consequence of their evolution. The results of the study of tropical evergreen forests in India are published in the journal Zootaxa.
