The scandal in Italian football over alleged manipulation of referee appointments is growing, and Inter is indirectly at its center. The Milan prosecutor's office is officially investigating the former head of referees Gianluca Rocchi for complicity in sports fraud, reports “Sport Mediaset”. It is about an alleged scheme in which influence was exerted on the appointments of referees for certain Serie A matches. A key moment in the investigation is a meeting held on April 2, 2025 at the “San Siro” stadium. It is this that raises doubts that there were attempts to direct referee decisions in favor of a particular team.

An important clarification is that at this time there is no evidence or accusations against Inter or its leaders. The investigation is focused on individual actions and the possible involvement of other individuals who remain unidentified for the time being.

A curious detail of the case is related to referee Daniele Doveri. Just three days after the match in question (Udinese - Parma), he also refereed the match between Parma and Inter, which ended 2:2. According to prosecutors, Doveri was among the referees who were not “preferred“ by the “Nerazzurri“, which further strengthens doubts about the mechanism of appointments.

Investigators emphasize that the results of the matches in question are irrelevant to the case. What is important is the attempt to influence and the possible coordination between the participants in the scheme.

The upcoming interrogation of Rocchi on April 30 is expected to provide more clarity, with possible recordings, communications and witness statements being key to the development of the case.
