Serbian Novak Djokovic won his 100th singles title after triumphing at the clay tennis tournament in Geneva (Switzerland) from the ATP 250 series with a prize fund of over 596 thousand euros.

Second seed Djokovic defeated sixth seed Pole Hubert Hurkacz in the final with 5:7, 7:6(2), 7:6(2). The match lasted a grueling three hours and eight minutes, and the Serbian tennis player had to overcome a set deficit and a set deficit in the decisive part to reach the trophy.

It was also perfect preparation for his attempt to win a record 25th Grand Slam title at the French Open, which begins on Sunday.

Novak Djokovic became only the third tennis player in the Open era - after Jimmy Connors (109) and Roger Federer (103) - to win 100 ATP Tour titles. The Serb, who turned 38 on Thursday, had not won a trophy since winning Olympic gold in Paris last year and had suffered early exits in his previous clay court appearances in Madrid and Monte Carlo.

Djokovic is also the first man in the Open era to win a title in 20 different seasons, and his 100th singles trophy came nearly 19 years after his first in July 2006.

He looked set for another painful defeat after he made two double faults and lost the final game of the first set after a break by Hurkacz. The second set went without a break, but Djokovic prevailed in the tiebreak, taking advantage of the Pole's mistakes.

Hubert Hurkacz made a break at the start of the third set, leading 2:0 and 4:2, but Novak Djokovic equalized for 4:4 and later was decisive again in the tiebreak.

"I'm just grateful to have won the 100th title here", said Djokovic in his on-court interview, quoted by the AP agency.

"I had to work for it, that's for sure. Hubert was probably closer to winning the whole match. I don't know how I broke his serve", added the Serbian tennis star.
