Germany's National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) has not published the names of punished doping offenders for several years, according to a report by ARD television, BTA reported.
The report states that about 90% of cases over the past five years have not been made public. According to ARD calculations, the number of athletes who committed a doping-related violation is between 70 and 130.
As a reason, NADA pointed out legal risks and the protection of personal data.
"In its anti-doping work, NADA is committed to transparency, accountability and valid decisions. "However, this is contrary to current data protection legislation," the report quoted Lars Mortschiffer, CEO of the German Anti-Doping Agency, as saying.
ARD said that athletes from at least 18 Olympic sports were affected, but did not provide information on how famous and successful the sanctioned athletes in the sports in question were.
