German Alexander Zverev won 6-2, 6-2 against American Ben Shelton and advanced to the semifinals of the Cincinnati men's tennis tournament. The tournament is a "Masters 1000" event with a prize pool of 9.193 million US dollars, BTA reported.
World number 3 Zverev, who suffered respiratory problems at the beginning of the second set and took a medical timeout, won in 77 minutes. Shelton had only one chance to break and failed to convert it.
Zverev hit five aces to 12 for sixth-ranked Shelton, with the German also trailing in the winning shots 13-18. However, he converted four of his 11 break points - two in each set.
In the semifinals, Zverev will face French Open champion Carlos Alcaraz, who won 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 against Andrey Rublev. In the other match, No. 1 seed Yannick Siner will face qualifier Terrance Atman.
