The future of the huge Airbus A380 passenger plane is in doubt

Maintaining this plane is becoming increasingly difficult

It is becoming increasingly expensive for airlines to keep the world's largest commercial passenger plane, the Airbus SE A380, in a safe condition. Bloomberg reported on the problems of this aging plane.

It turned out that every year there are more and more airworthiness directives that affect the Airbus SE A380 machines. In addition to procedural issues, such as requirements for checking modern equipment, these documents address leaking ramps, cracked seals and broken landing gear axles - about twice as many as the directives for Boeing's large aircraft.

The media notes that in the past the A380 was a triumph of international cooperation. Parts for this plane were produced by 1,500 companies around the world. But now, in an era of disrupted supply chains, servicing the aircraft is becoming increasingly difficult. At the same time, airlines are forced to continue operating these aircraft because there is a shortage of new, more fuel-efficient ones.

It is noted that the future of the A380 was already in question when the COVID-19 pandemic brought global air travel to a standstill in early 2020.
