Marco Rubio described the entry of Russian drones into Polish airspace as unacceptable

The US Secretary of State did not make it clear whether he believes it is a deliberate action by Moscow

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio described the entry of Russian drones into Polish airspace as "unacceptable", but did not make it clear whether he believes it is a deliberate action by Moscow, Reuters reported.

NATO said yesterday that it plans to strengthen defenses on Europe's eastern flank after Poland earlier this week intercepted drones that violated its airspace.

"We believe this is an unacceptable, regrettable and dangerous development," Rubio told journalists in Israel before leaving for Britain.

Rubio said "there is no doubt" that the drones were deliberately launched. "The question is whether the drones were specifically aimed at Poland", the American diplomat noted. "If the evidence leads us to that conclusion, then it would obviously be a highly escalating move", Rubio continued. "There are a number of other possibilities, but… we would like to have all the facts and consult with our allies before making any specific decisions", the US Secretary of State stressed.

President Donald Trump on Friday admitted that the drones had violated Polish airspace by mistake.

Dorothy Shea, acting US permanent representative to the United Nations, described the violation of Polish airspace as "alarming" and said that Washington "will defend every inch of NATO territory".
