US Vice President JD Vance said today that he “desperately“ wants national unity after the murder of conservative political activist Charlie Kirk, but pointed out that it is impossible to find common ground with those celebrating his death, the Associated Press reports, quoted by BTA.

Vance hosts Kirk's radio show from the ceremonial office of the “Eisenhower“ building next to the White House. At the beginning, he said that he “is replacing someone who cannot be replaced“, and at the end he criticized the lies about Kirk and blamed them for his murder. Vance promised that the Trump administration would take action against anyone who would kill another person for political reasons.

“I desperately want our country to be united in condemning the actions and ideas that killed my friend,“ the vice president said, stressing that political violence is unacceptable.

Vance was particularly close to Kirk, the founder of one of the largest political organizations in the United States with chapters in high schools and colleges, and the two have been friends for nearly a decade. The broadcast also featured White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr., White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt and Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller.
