Poland has tightened the conditions for receiving benefits from thousands of Ukrainian refugees on its territory, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
Polish President Karol Nawrotski signed a law last night to extend benefits for Ukrainian refugees shortly before the October 1 deadline, the Polish Press Agency (PAP) reported, citing the head of the presidential office.
If the law had not been signed by the head of state, then the legal provisions under which Ukrainians in Poland are employed would have ceased to apply from the beginning of October.
One of the new provisions states that Ukrainian refugees will receive social benefits such as child benefits only if they work and pay taxes in Poland.
The liberal Polish government and the right-wing conservative President Nawrotski, who won the elections in early June, clashed over the legislation.
Navrotsky vetoed the initial version of the law, after which the government backed down on child benefits for Ukrainian refugees.
