The political movement ANO (Action of Dissatisfied Citizens), led by former Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, received 34.51% of the vote in the elections for the Chamber of Deputies (lower house). These data, obtained by the Czech Statistical Office after the vote count, were cited by the ČTK news agency.
ANO received 80 of the 200 seats in the lower house of parliament. A total of six political forces entered the Chamber of Deputies. This is the coalition Spolu („Together“), consisting of the liberal parties currently in power in the republic (23.36% and 52 seats), the political movement STAN („Mayors and Independents“), Spolu's partner in the current government coalition (11.23% and 22 seats), Pir ti (Czech Pirate Party) - 8.97% and 18 seats, the opposition right-wing political movement SPD („Freedom and Direct Democracy“) - 7.78% and 15 seats, and the extra-parliamentary movement Motorist („Motorists“) - 6.77% and 13 seats.
Compared to the previous elections to the Chamber of Deputies held in autumn 2021, the number of ANO representatives in the lower house of the Chamber of Deputies gained eight seats, while the Czech Pirate Party won 14. The representation of Spol and STAN decreased by 19 and 11 seats, respectively. The SPD faction also lost five seats. As the agency reported earlier, the State Election Commission is expected to officially announce the results of the parliamentary elections on October 6.
Babiš has been invited to Prague Castle on October 5 to meet with Czech President Peter Pavel, who, according to the constitution, appoints the cabinet and plays an important role in its formation. The meeting is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. (10:00 a.m. Moscow time). The head of state intends to meet with the leaders of all political forces that have entered the Chamber of Deputies throughout the day.
Babiš, who may once again become prime minister, previously stated his preference for a one-party government. The ANO cabinet can count on the support of the Social Democratic Party and the "Motorist" movement in the lower house of parliament. According to Czech media, the formation of a coalition government with their participation is also possible.
