The Spanish parliament voted on Wednesday to adopt a government decree that formalizes the full arms embargo on Israel, announced by the country's Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez in September, AFP reported, reports News.bg.
The lawmakers approved the measure by 178 votes "for" against 169 "against". The decree prohibits the export of defense equipment, products or technologies to Israel, as well as the import of such goods from the country.
The ban also covers the transit of fuel or materials with potential military applications. Ships and aircraft carrying such cargo will not be allowed to enter Spanish ports and airspace.
In addition, the advertising of products "originating from illegal colonies in Gaza and the West Bank" is prohibited.
"Israel's response to the horrific attacks carried out by the terrorist group Hamas has become an indiscriminate attack against the Palestinian population, which, according to the majority of experts, constitutes genocide," the preamble to the law states.
