Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that he still hopes that the United States will agree to provide his country with "Tomahawk" cruise missiles, after meeting with his American counterpart Donald Trump at the White House yesterday, DPA reported, BTA reported.

"Our teams are working on the issue," the Ukrainian leader said in an interview with NBC television. "It's good that President Trump is not saying "No," but he is not saying "Yes" for now, he added.

Zelensky stressed that Ukraine relies on receiving such long-range weapons to defend itself from the Russian invasion, which has been going on for over three years.

He noted, that the "Tomahawks" are a sensitive issue for Moscow as well, and added that in his opinion Russian President Vladimir Putin is afraid of providing such missiles to Kiev.

Zelensky visited Washington to seek approval for the delivery of cruise missiles, which would allow Ukraine to take more offensive action in repelling the Russian invasion.

Trump has long hesitated on the issue. He has shown a willingness to discuss it, but at the same time has repeatedly emphasized that the United States also needs this weapon, so it would not lightly deprive itself of its stocks of it. After the meeting, it remains unclear what exactly was agreed regarding the "Tomahawk".
