Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko criticized Lithuania for closing border crossings with Belarus, calling it “absurd“, Reuters reported. He accused Vilnius of waging a hybrid war, Russian media reported, BTA reports.
Meanwhile, Lithuanian authorities announced that they would begin shooting down balloons coming from Belarus, used by smugglers who repeatedly entered the country's airspace.
Lukashenko also specified that the deployment of the “Oreshnik“ missile system in Belarus is not an aggressive move, but is aimed at ensuring the country's security, the Belarusian agency reported Belta.
The President stressed that Russia and Belarus have no interest in escalations in the region.
