Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will visit Iraq today, where he will meet with high-ranking representatives of the Iraqi authorities, TRT Haber reported, citing sources from the Turkish Foreign Ministry.

According to diplomatic sources, during the visit, Fidan is expected to express his satisfaction with the rapidly developing bilateral relations in almost all areas in recent years and with the strengthening of high-level contacts between Iraq and Turkey, BTA specifies. The talks are also expected to discuss the current situation in the Middle East and the process of ending the armed struggle between the militants of the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and the Turkish authorities.

Meanwhile, Turkey and Iraq have also strengthened their economic partnership by signing a second protocol within the framework of the Joint Economic and Trade Committee between the two countries, aiming to increase bilateral trade between them to $20 billion in the short term and $30 billion in the medium term. The protocol was signed on Thursday in Baghdad during an official visit by Turkish Trade Minister Ömer Bolat to Iraq.
