The ideas that now sound like points of the "peace plan" aimed at freezing the Russian-Ukrainian war are one more absurd than the other, writes The Telegraph, citing sources familiar with the terms of the "US peace plan", developed with the participation of the Russians.

According to them, Ukraine, in addition to having to reduce its armed forces, ban the possession of long-range missiles, not be able to deploy foreign troops as a security guarantee and a bunch of other similar "requirements", will also be forced to hand over control of Donbas. But it will retain ownership of the controlled part of the region.

The publication notes that the proposal to "rent" Donbass to the Russians fits perfectly into the business deal scheme of US President Donald Trump, since Donbass is rich in minerals. And in exchange for the territory, Moscow will pay Ukraine, which will lose access to these rich lands, a land tax...

However, the amount of the rent (and tax) is not specified. The idea is probably that the parties will negotiate on the spot, like in the market.

According to UNIAN political scientist Igor Petrenko, the proposal borders on the absurd.

''But just imagine: A thief breaks into your home, kills members of your family, destroys half of the house, and then the "peacemaker" offers you:

"Okay, let him live in your bedroom, but he will pay you $50 a month. The deal is profitable, right?".

According to him, such a "peace proposal" only shows the US's absolute misunderstanding of the fact that:

''Donbass is not real estate on Airbnb, but an occupied territory with millions of injured people. The aggressor does not have the "right to rent" on the land it seized, committing genocide, and it is not possible to monetize a crime against humanity. Ukraine has not bankrupted a company that sells off its assets''.

Petrenko also points out that the proposal of such a plan speaks of moral bankruptcy, not diplomacy.

''I also have a question for the authors of the plan: Can Auschwitz be "rented"? And Babyn Yar? How much does it have to be paid to legalize war crimes - is there a price list?

Unfortunately, this whole "peace at any cost" story is not diplomacy, but moral bankruptcy dressed in an "Armani" suit.

And, by the way, Russia still owes Ukraine "rent" for Crimea since 2014. Maybe we should pay off the old debts first?'', the political scientist summarizes.
