The 5G network, which builds on the current 4G, officially began operating in Serbia today, reports the Serbian edition of the regional television En1, BTA reports.

According to the television, the introduction of 5G will provide significantly faster data transfer, the ability to continuously play video games and watch movies online without interruptions.

Three mobile operators - Telekom Serbia, Jetel and A1 - received licenses to operate the 5G network. The total value of the licenses exceeds 300 million euros, with the Serbian Regulatory Authority for Electronic Communications and Postal Services (RATEL) specifying in November that each operator will pay around 100 million euros for its license.

To take advantage of the new network, users must have 5G-compatible mobile devices. Otherwise, they will continue to use the 4G network.
