Europe needs an “electric shock“ and must take responsibility for its own destiny, said US Ambassador to Belgium Bill White in an interview with a local media outlet. According to him, Europe must manage without financial assistance from the US, BTA reports.

“Sometimes people need an electric shock because the GDP in Europe is shrinking and the economic situation is worrying“, White added. He pointed out that European and Belgian spending has increased too much and the budget cannot cover all needs. “There is no money here. If I had managed my family budget the same way, I would have been fired a long time ago“, he said.

White assured that the ties between the US and Belgium remain unbreakable, no matter what. "I'm very worried about Europe - you spend too much, and illegal migration can lead to consequences like we've seen in our country," he added.

Regarding the media coverage of President Donald Trump in Europe, the ambassador commented that it is "terrible" and "disgusting". According to his observations, 87 percent of the publications are negative, which, according to him, is not fair, accurate or kind. "This is a wonderful man and I love him," White said of his president.

As BTA reported, last week the US presented changes to its National Security Strategy, which state that Europe is at risk of civilizational obliteration due to immigration. The document includes criticism of the state of freedom of speech and expresses support for far-right forces.
