US President Donald Trump announced to reporters at the White House that he plans to travel to Florida on the eve of the new round of talks on Ukraine in Miami.
“We are going to Florida for a short time, mainly for work. We have a lot of meetings planned“, the president said on the lawn in front of the White House, before flying to North Carolina to give a speech on the economy.
“We will talk to the insurance companies and see if we can significantly reduce their rates. And if we can't, we will just pay the people directly. They will buy their own health insurance,” Trump added.
Earlier, Axios, citing a source in the US administration, reported that a new round of talks between the US and Ukraine could take place this weekend at the military level and at the working group level. As the portal’s correspondent Barak Ravid reported, the national security advisers of Great Britain, Germany and France (“EU-3“) will participate in talks on the Ukrainian issue in Miami on December 20 and will meet with the special envoy of the US President, Stephen Witkoff, and the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov. They will be joined by the Turkish Foreign Minister and the Prime Minister of Qatar.
In addition, Axios reported that the US plans to hold contacts not only with the Ukrainian delegation, but also with Russian representatives in Miami. According to the statement, Witkoff and the US president's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, plan to meet with Kirill Dmitriev, the Russian president's special representative for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries.
On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that the Kremlin expects the US side to provide information on the results of its work with the Europeans and Ukrainians on resolving the conflict as soon as it is ready.
