Judging by the Kremlin's statement on the phone call between President Putin and President Trump, released by President Putin's aide Yuri Ushakov, there are no signs of a change in Moscow's position.

This was commented on by the BBC's Russia editor Steve Rosenberg.

Ushakov called on Kiev to make a <...>, bold, responsible political decision on Donbas, given the situation developing on the fronts.

He did not say what that decision was. But it shows that Moscow continues to insist that Ukraine cede the territory of Donbas, which is still under Ukrainian control. This is land that Russia has failed to capture in almost four years of war, recalls Steve Rosenberg.

Ushakov's comments give the impression that on key issues the Kremlin and the White House generally share the same point of view.

According to him, the leaders of the United States and Russia are of the opinion that the option proposed by Ukraine and Europe for a temporary ceasefire "under the pretext of a referendum" will lead to an escalation of the conflict.

The United States and Russia have agreed to create two working groups on Ukraine, which will deal with security and economic issues. According to Ushakov, Presidents Putin and Trump will speak by phone again after Trump's talks with Zelensky.
