Large parts of the Ukrainian capital Kiev continue to be without electricity and heating today after Russian air strikes with missiles and drones, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.

“As of this morning, about 4,000 residential buildings in Kiev are still without heating, and nearly 60% of the capital is without electricity“, President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on social networks.

He again criticized the city authorities and demanded that repair work be accelerated. According to Mayor Vitali Klitschko, mobile operators report that about 600,000 people have temporarily left the city of about 3 million.

Other parts of the country, including the Odessa and Dnipropetrovsk regions, as well as the border regions of Sumy and Chernihiv, have also been affected by power outages due to the Russian attacks.

According to the governor of the Kharkiv region, Oleg Sinegubov, almost 90% of households in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv and the region were without electricity yesterday. More than half a million households still remain without electricity.

Since the beginning of January, Ukraine has been gripped by severe cold, with temperatures in places falling to double-digit negative Celsius.

Temperatures are expected to rise above freezing again next week, which will ease the situation. The Eastern European country has been defending itself against a Russian invasion for almost four years.
