We want to have active communication and active engagement with Sofia, proof that we can cooperate is Corridor 8, said today the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of North Macedonia Timcho Mucunski in response to journalistic questions after his participation yesterday in a meeting in Tirana at the ministerial level regarding the transport corridor passing through Albania, the Republic of North Macedonia and Bulgaria, the electronic edition of the newspaper "Nezavisen" reports, BTA reported.

"We also have specific communication with the European Union. One of the topics we discussed with European Council President Antonio Costa in Munich was the process of potentially finding a solution with neighboring Bulgaria, and this is something we will work on, but within the principles that are clear to us," he added.

A delegation led by North Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski met with European Council President Antonio Costa on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference last week.

Regarding Corridor 8, the foreign minister said that at the meeting in Tirana he had drawn attention to the need to accelerate the construction of the western segment of this corridor - on the territory of Albania, and that there have been positive signals in Albania recently in this regard.

"And it is not just about road and rail infrastructure, but also about energy infrastructure and other additional aspects that are related to this. Why am I mentioning Corridor 8? Because it is proof that we can cooperate with neighboring Bulgaria whenever we want," Timcho Mucinski pointed out.

He reminded that an election process is currently underway in Bulgaria and "we must be very careful about what we say and what position we take (…), since we as a country have absolutely no interest in becoming part of the election rhetoric in neighboring Bulgaria."

Tirana hosted yesterday a Ministerial Meeting and Economic Forum on the Transport Corridor 8 - an infrastructure project that connects the Adriatic with the Black Sea through Albania, the Republic of North Macedonia and Bulgaria, extending to Italy and Romania.
