Residents of the eastern Romanian county of Tulcea, which is located near the border with Ukraine, received two messages early this morning via the Ro-Alert warning system about the danger of falling objects, local media reported, quoted by BTA.
The country's Ministry of National Defense announced that radars had detected a drone in Ukrainian airspace, heading north of Tulcea county. The drone, however, did not enter Romanian airspace and at 07:47 local (and Bulgarian) time the alert was cancelled.
“The Ministry of National Defense constantly monitors the airspace, in close cooperation with NATO allies, to guarantee the security and territorial integrity of Romania“, the ministry said in a statement.
On Wednesday evening, two F-16 fighter jets were scrambled from the Fetești military base due to a drone that briefly entered Romanian airspace. This happened after several Ukrainian cities were subjected to Russian strikes, Agence France-Presse and Reuters reported.
