Iran and the United States have made some progress in efforts for a long-term agreement to end hostilities, but serious differences remain, including on the issue of Tehran's nuclear program, Reuters reports, BTA reports.

According to a senior Iranian official, a visit by Pakistan's Chief of General Staff Asim Munir to Tehran has contributed to reducing tensions and has boosted hopes for a renewal of talks between the two countries.

No date has been set for a new round of talks yet, with the main contentious issues remaining the fate of highly enriched uranium and the duration of Iran's nuclear restrictions.

The Pakistani side said that communication channels between the United States and Tehran remain open, and the two parties demonstrate willingness to continue dialogue while the negotiation process continues.
