Fourteen people were killed in southern Lebanon yesterday in Israeli air strikes despite a ceasefire between the two sides. Another 37 were wounded, the Lebanese health ministry said.

The army said it was carrying out artillery and air strikes on "Hezbollah" targets in that part of the country, targeting rocket launchers and warehouses of the group as fighting intensified. However, according to Lebanese media, the military also bombed several villages in the area.

The group had earlier said its actions were a "legitimate response" of the Israeli violation of the ceasefire.

The two sides continue to accuse each other of not respecting the ceasefire announced 10 days ago.
