The Israeli Foreign Ministry stated that one of the immediate response to Iranian drone and missile attacks against Israel should be to declare the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which carried out the attacks, a terrorist organization, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
A released statement by Foreign Ministry spokesman Lior Hayat said Israel would also impose "painful sanctions" of Iran, including in the field of missile development.
The Iranian attack was accompanied by other terrorist attacks by Iraqi military groups, the Houthis in Yemen and "Hezbollah" in Lebanon, Hayat said. According to him, the Iranian attack proves what Israel has been claiming for years – that Iran is the biggest threat to regional stability and the source of terrorist attacks in the region.
KGIR is the elite of the armed forces of Iran and its mission is to protect the state ideology, and above all to prevent coups, DPA points out. The unit is increasingly criticized for its involvement in repressive measures in the country.
In the EU, there are legal obstacles to putting KGIR on the list of terrorist organizations, and some experts say that for this to happen, a court decision from a member state is needed.
KGIR has also been sanctioned and Iran is threatening to take countermeasures. The possibility of detaining foreign oil tankers in the Persian Gulf or even blocking the Strait of Hormuz, which connects it to the Gulf of Oman, has been mentioned.
This is one of the most important sea routes in the world, along which many oil supplies pass, DPA notes.
