Hundreds of young people demonstrated last night in the Georgian capital Tbilisi in support of the European integration of the country, reported France Presse, quoted by BTA.

They marched, waving EU flags and chanting: "To Europe!"

The Georgian capital became the scene of mass protests this week against the ruling party's intention to push through a law on "foreign agents" aimed at countering foreign influence in the former Soviet republic in the South Caucasus. However, the pro-Western opposition denounces the text as a copy of a Russian law that allowed the Kremlin to stifle the opposition, AFP notes.

On Wednesday, the disputed normative act was adopted by the Georgian Parliament in the first reading.

Yesterday, the European Commission warned that the law could end Georgia's hopes of joining the EU.
