Yemen's Houthi rebels last night said they had shot down another unmanned MQ-9 "Reaper" (MQ-9 Reaper) of the US Army and released footage showing remains consistent with parts of the drone, the Associated Press reported, citing BTA.
The Houthis said they shot down the drone with a surface-to-air missile. This week, the rebels renewed a series of attacks after a relative lull in their pressure campaign, which began because of the war between Israel and "Hamas" in the Gaza Strip, the AP points out.
US Air Force Lt. Col. Brian J. McGarry, a spokesman for the US Department of Defense, acknowledged that "a US Air Force MQ-9 unmanned aircraft crashed in Yemen". He said an investigation was underway, without elaborating.
The Houthis said the drone was shot down on Thursday over their stronghold in Yemen's Saada province.
