In the US: Ukraine is at a disadvantage due to restrictions on the use of US weapons

Russia is taking advantage of these restrictions, the Institute for the Study of War in the US said

Ukraine is at a disadvantage in its defense against Russian forces due to restrictions on the use of American weapons against targets on the territory of Russia, according to a report by the Washington-based Institute for the Study of War, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.

The report released yesterday by the American think tank states that Russia is taking advantage of these restrictions by carrying out attacks from protected areas near the Ukrainian border.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called for Kiev to be allowed to use US weapons on Russian territory, which the US is currently refusing in order to avoid escalation.

Washington's approach so far severely limits Ukraine's ability to defend itself against Russian attacks in the northern part of Kharkiv Oblast, the report says.

According to the Pentagon, the US is providing the weapons so that Ukraine can liberate its occupied territories, but not for attacks against Russia.

Ukraine's goal is to attack bases in Russia with Western weapons to destroy them even more effectively than with its own drones and missiles, which are not as powerful.

On the other hand, Russia warns of the danger of escalation of the war if weapons from NATO member countries are used against it.
