British Home Secretary James Cleverley accused the PP chairman “Reform United Kingdom“ Nigel Farage for “repeating Putin's disgusting justifications for the brutal invasion of Ukraine”. Earlier, Farage linked the expansion of the European Union and NATO in recent decades to the conflict in Eastern Europe, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.

During an interview on the BBC yesterday, Farage was asked to give his opinion on Russian President Vladimir Putin. “I say that I don't like him as a person, but I admire him because he managed to take control of the government of Russia,” said the British politician.

„I'm going to say something you don't know. I stood before the European Parliament in 2014 [then Farage is an MEP – note.ed.] and I said that there will be a war in Ukraine. Why did I say that? It was clear to me that the continued eastward expansion of NATO and the EU gives this man a reason to tell the Russian people that they are coming for him, added the Reform UK chairman. and added: “Wait a minute, we provoked the war. Of course it's his fault – he uses what we did as an excuse“.

Farage has drawn criticism from a number of high-ranking British politicians.

„Farage repeats Putin's disgusting excuses for the brutal invasion of Ukraine”, Cleverley said on the social network “X”.

Labour's shadow defense secretary John Healy said Farage “would rather lick Putin's boots than protect the Ukrainian people” and added that “these are shameful comments that reveal the true face of Nigel Farage – a Putin apologist who should not be trusted with the nation's security”.

„Churchill would be turning in his grave. Putin, who is already enjoying how Farage is confusing British politics, will be delighted to hear this talk of appeasement during the election debate, in turn told the Daily Telegraph newspaper. the former defense minister of Great Britain Tobias Elwood.

Parliamentary elections in Great Britain will be held on July 4.
