Tropical storm “Debby“ to make landfall today and bring heavy rains to South Carolina, Reuters reported. The approach of the storm has increased fears of flash floods in areas where the ground is already waterlogged by the passage of other storms, cited by BTA.
Yesterday “Debbie“ brought less rain than previous days, but National Weather Service meteorologist Rich Bann warned that rain will pick up again today.
„Moisture is returning to “Debby”, Ban said, noting that the storm had accumulated new rain clouds as it moved over the Atlantic Ocean off the coasts of Georgia and South Carolina yesterday. “While “Debbie” moves over land, the threat of torrential rain will lead to flooding concerns,” he added.
Ban said tomorrow the storm will bring rain from Virginia to Pennsylvania, where the ground is already soaked with water from other storms during the week, raising the risk of flooding. During the weekends “Debbie” will bring rain over central New York and over Vermont.
At least six people died as a result of the storm passing over Florida and Georgia. It made landfall on Monday as a Category 1 hurricane on the Gulf Coast off Florida and then headed northeast.
The governors of South and North Carolina, Florida and Georgia have declared states of emergency. The storm has already caused flooding, submerging entire neighborhoods and roads in these areas.
